From Founder to Community Builder
Katie Hsieh’s career has never fit neatly into one box. She started as a culinary entrepreneur and later became the founder and CEO of Taiwan Next Foundation, an organization connecting Taiwanese professionals across generations and industries in North America.
But behind her diverse journey lies a single conviction: success means lifting others as you rise.
“Before forty, I was chasing my own accomplishments,” she says with a smile. “Now, I care more about helping others grow and giving back to the community.” That shift—from personal ambition to collective purpose—became the spark that ignited Taiwan Next.
Conversations That Sparked a Movement
The story began during the pandemic, when Katie launched a podcast and interviewed more than a hundred Silicon Valley executives, founders, and investors.
“Those conversations opened my eyes,” she recalls. “I realized there’s a huge concentration of talented Taiwanese professionals here in the U.S.—and if we could bring them together, extraordinary things could happen.”
In 2022, she founded Taiwan Tech Summit (TTS). What started as a volunteer-led gathering unexpectedly drew over a thousand attendees and quickly became one of Silicon Valley’s must-attend events.
Two years later, in 2024, Taiwan Next Foundation was born—transforming that initial burst of energy into a long-term platform for sustainable collaboration between Taiwan and the U.S.
What “Next” Really Means
“Taiwan Next represents the next step, the next generation, and the next vision for Taiwan,” Katie explains.
The foundation serves as both a and a, linking students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and startups in a shared ecosystem of opportunity.
Through career talks, leadership forums, and cross-border initiatives held across Silicon Valley and beyond, Taiwan Next helps young people explore their potential—and helps startups from Taiwan land and grow in the U.S.
“Our goal,” Katie says, “is to make Taiwanese people in America feel at home—to find partners, opportunities, and perhaps even their own future.”
The Power of Connection
When asked about the moments that have stayed with her the most, Katie doesn’t hesitate.“There was a young volunteer who once told me, ‘For the first time, I feel connected to Taiwan and to a group of people who believe in the same things I do. I’ve found my future—and a home.’ That sentence moved me deeply.”
Another moment came after a Taiwan Demo Day, when a founder wrote to tell her he had just secured his through the event—a major Silicon Valley fund. “That letter reminded me why we do this,” Katie says softly. “We’re not just building programs; we’re changing lives.”For her, Taiwan Next has become more than an organization—it’s a community built on trust, belonging, and shared growth.
Taiwan’s Moment on the Global Stage
Facing supply chain restructuring and changes in the global landscape, Katie remains confident in Taiwan’s role.
“Taiwan’s hardware capabilities are world-class, and now we’re beginning to shine in AI and software integration as well. More importantly, Taiwan offers an open and reliable industrial environment, making us one of the most trusted partners in the world.”
She pointed out that from Google and Microsoft to NVIDIA, major tech companies are increasing their investments in Taiwan—showing that the island is transforming from a “manufacturing base” into a key hub of both innovation and R&D.
Redefining Talent in the Age of AI
“AI has completely rewritten the rules,” Katie says. “A team that once required five hundred people might now need only five.”
She believes the next decade will test not only industries but also how people think about work and identity. That’s why Taiwan Next has made AI-era talent development a key focus—helping people master new tools, expand across disciplines, and stay grounded amid rapid transformation.
The Taiwanese Advantage—And What Still Holds Us Back
Taiwanese professionals, Katie observes, are known for their technical strength and diligence—but often struggle with self-promotion.
“We’re taught to be humble, but sometimes that humility keeps us from being heard,” she notes. “If the first generation represents steadiness, and the second brings language and confidence, then together we can become something unstoppable.”
Beyond AI: What Makes Us Human
“Your hard skills should evolve, but your soft skills should make you unforgettable.”
Katie believes that in an age dominated by algorithms, genuine human connection is the new competitive edge. “AI can make you efficient,” she says, “but it can’t make you trusted. Attend events, build relationships, learn to communicate—these are the things no machine can replace.”
A Platform for Taiwan’s Next Chapter
More than an entrepreneur, Katie sees herself as a bridge-builder—connecting people, ideas, and futures. Through Taiwan Next, she’s creating a global platform for Taiwanese innovation and collaboration to shine on the world stage.
——Katie Hsieh“We want to be both a cradle and a catalyst for Taiwanese in the U.S.—helping startups land, grow, and thrive, while building a strong, lasting network for the community.”
